ICGEB & LABGENE

LAMP

We are proud to be part of a partnership Project titled “COVID-19: Community Access Diagnostics laboratory networks” involving African countries (Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Sudan and Zimbabwe) and the ICGEB, in collaboration with New England Biolabs Inc. (NEB), plus the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Aims

The Project aims to promote increased access to and knowledge about high quality and cost-effective diagnostic tools relevant to local needs, starting from the already validated RT-LAMP kit and strengthening capacities for early warning, risk reduction and management of current or emerging viral threats.

Advantages

The transfer of scientific knowledge, expertise and technologies will facilitate a more straightforward, sensitive and far less expensive than PCR methodology for identifying microbes in biological samples.

We look forward to having the loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technology fully implemented in community labs in the next 23 months.
